Somewhere, sometime early in my life I was bitten by the travel bug.

Personally, I blame television and Charles Kuralt, Martin Milner, George Maharis and Glen Corbett. But maybe you don’t know who they were?

Charles Kuralt hosted the “On the Road with Charles Kuralt” show. It began on CBS October 1967 and ran for 25 years. Kuralt had a great job traveling the United States in a motor home, stopping and spending time whenever, and wherever, he found a person or place of particular interest. Then on Sunday he would tell a vast television audience about the interesting person, the charming town or the unusually scenic location that he had visited that week. And, the most amazing thing of all, he got paid for doing it!

Milner, Maharis and Corbett played Tod, Buz and Linc in the 1960’s era television show “Route 66”. The show chronicled three young men, a gorgeous red Corvette convertible and, seemingly, the complete lack of having to work at regular jobs while driving along the highway. What teenager (or grown-up for that matter) watching this show didn’t want to get out and do the same? The show’s theme song by Bobby Troup – Get Your Kicks on Route 66 – just added to the viewers’ wanderlust desire. The drama showcased many locations along 66 during its four-year run.

I have never ridden Big Sur. Following the length of Route 66 and taking a lot of photographs exists only in my daydreams. The Blue Ridge Parkway by motorcycle is just an armchair dream. Riding the Scenic Seven through Arkansas is on my wish list.

In this issue we have researched the places that we want to visit and hope that some of you want to visit also. Our staff is planning trips to at least two of these destinations this year. One trip to ride Route 66 from Oklahoma to Williams, Arizona. A visit to the Grand Canyon and then we will loop back through the Colorado and New Mexico mountains.

Our other planned trip is to the Blue Ridge and Smoky Mountains. A limited number of guests are invited to ride with us, if you are interested in joining us on either of these trips contact us via email.

We hope that you enjoy this edition and that it encourages you to fulfill at least one of your dreams.

Get out and ride! Safely.
