Romantic Getaway: Full Moon Inn

Between publishing the online magazine and writing about motorcycle travel destinations, we get to visit a lot of places. After a while even the best locations can become sort of “ho hum”, but occasionally we find something that is truly outstanding and that happened recently when we had the opportunity to visit the Full Moon Inn, a Bed & Breakfast near Fredericksburg, TX.

Located only about a mile from Luckenbach, the first thing you notice about the Full Moon Inn are the immaculate grounds and the Live Oak trees. Then set further back on the hill you see the farm houses. We arrived in cool weather and were greeted by a blanket of Blue Bells draped over the fence.

Owner/host Matthew Carinhas, one of the friendliest people you will ever meet, is justifiably proud of the Full Moon Inn. It has taken over 11 years and lot of hard work to create such a restful setting. There are 6 guest rooms located in several different buildings including a fully restored, 150 year old log cabin. Each room is done in a different theme.

The Cypress Room is one of the most intimate rooms. It has a corner styled whirlpool tub facing the limestone fireplace with a queen-size bed, plush carpet and a décor of mossy greens.

The Peach Room , offering a king-size bed and a private bath, is handicapped accessible and fully complies with A.D.A. specifications.

The Grape Suite with its queen-size bed and full kitchen and is great for extended stays or special occasions.

If you are traveling with friends or family, consider the Log Cabin. Downstairs has a king-size bed while the upstairs has a queen-size bed. The shared bath makes this accommodation ideal for family or couples traveling together.

There is on-premise wine cellar with a great selection of wines. Sit on your porch, enjoy a bottle of wine and relax in this idyllic country setting.

On-site, also, is the Full Moon Saloon & Grill with customized catering for 25 to 250 people.

The main house, where breakfast is served, has a kitchen straight from your Grandma’s house, and even has a pet hog (Rooter Boy) usually asleep next to the fireplace.

Matthew has done most of the work on the place himself and has maintained an exceptional level of quality in the craftsmanship of every detail.

Just in case creating the Full Moon Inn hasn’t kept him busy enough, check out the 1957 Oldsmobile 88 that he has fully restored to original showroom condition. His next project is a 1962 Chevy Impala.

If you would like to ride some of the best motorcycle roads in the area, Matthew can provide any information and directions that you might need. In addition to Luckenbach, Fredericksburg, Kerrville and Johnson City are close. The Willow City loop, a great ride, is considered some of the finest riding in the entire state. Finish your ride by visiting (and climbing) nearby Enchanted Rock.
